About ICC

About ICC

A distinctive platform for applied coffee science

Understanding coffee through evidence, relevance and exchange.

Mission

The International Coffee Convention was created to provide a forum where scientific thinking and practical industry needs meet in productive dialogue.

Its mission is to present coffee-related research in a form that remains rigorous while becoming more accessible, more relevant and more useful to the people making decisions across the coffee value chain.

ICC stands for applied science: not science simplified into superficiality, but science interpreted with clarity and connected to real-world consequence.

What Makes ICC Different

Many events discuss coffee. Few create sustained dialogue between scientific disciplines and the operational, commercial and strategic realities of the sector.

ICC is distinctive because it does not separate research from relevance. It selects topics that matter now, invites contributors who can speak across boundaries and creates a format in which participants can move from evidence to implication to exchange.

This makes ICC especially valuable for professionals who need more than inspiration. They need orientation.

Applied Science

Applied science is central to the ICC identity.

In the context of coffee, applied science means asking not only whether something is true, but why it matters. It means translating findings into options, risks, recommendations and better-informed decisions. It means helping producers, traders, roasters, product developers, operators, sustainability leaders and policymakers understand how research relates to action.

This is the guiding principle behind the programme and the wider structure of the convention.

History

The first editions of ICC were held in Mannheim in 2023 and 2024. These events established the convention’s identity as a focused, interdisciplinary and internationally relevant format.

With ICC 2026 in Trieste, the convention continues to develop its role as a platform for current issues, practical insight and high-level dialogue in coffee.
